There are some really spooky parts to this book, but just not enough for me to find it as haunting as her other 2 books I have read. I really liked the haunted house aspect, and those were the scenes that actually scared me. I liked Shea, the main character, and I think Beth Greer, a recluse who lives in this haunted house, is a very likable person, even when Shea and the author try to make her seem harsh and unlovable. I gave 3 stars because I feel like the ending belonged to a different book. There’s this whole cliff scene, and then a park scene, and then a body found… it just didn’t make sense to me why it went in this direction. Or why Shea is so mad at Beth for what she did to her sister. I think Beth made the right choice! Putting an end to a serial killer is 100% okay in my book. I’m still going to read St. James, but this is not one I would recommend.

I recently stumbled upon the Riot Grrrl history, and listening to Hannah’s memoir was so interesting. While she is best known as the “leader” of the Riot Grrrl movement, this book tells her ENTIRE story. I love when the author reads their own book, and the way she reads it makes it feel more like she’s talking to you than reading the book.

One of my new favorite books

My book club read this book. I absolutely adored this book. It was one that I never wanted to end- I got sad knowing I was approaching the end of the book. Sad to say goodbye to the characters. Our book club went on a field trip to see the movie in the theater. Now that it’s available on prime, my 6 year old son was excited to see it, as I’d told him about the book. He loved it as well.

I recently discovered this author and he has quickly become one of my favorites. This story is creepy and disturbing, but what makes it even more interesting is that the central character, Coraline NOT CAROLINE, is a young girl which allows her to behave in more interesting ways than an adult would. And don’t worry. All of your “But what about…” questions are answered in the end.

I feel like this book could’ve been more interactive. Like the questions should’ve got answered on the following pages. This was a Vox book, I feel the narrator read the book slightly too fast for my children.
