I could not put this book down, whether I was reading before sleep or trying to squeeze in a few minutes of this story during the day. I love when that happens! This historical fiction spans a woman’s life from childhood all the way through to her ‘Sitting Quietly’ years. She’s a holistic doctor in China during the the 1400’s, and she heals people from all different social classes. I learned so much about Ancient Chinese culture and the history of women during this time, and it was so interesting! This book was moving, heartbreaking, shocking, suspenseful, and enlightening. This one will live in my mind for a very long time. I can’t wait to read another of Lisa See’s books.

Not having read this author before, I found her to be a hidden gem. I loved the way this simple story was told with kindness, love, understanding and compassion. It a story about doing the right thin even when it really feels wrong, and about new beginnings. I highly recommend it. It will make you feel good.

Before We Were Yours

This book was a real page turner! Based on facts, it was an unbelievable story of an orphanage that existed for 20 years in Tennesseee. The children there were badly mistreated & a alot of them were not even orphans, but taken off the streets or directly from the hospitals after birth. The parents were told that their child died in childbirth, other parents were tricked into signing away their children. You have to read to believe!

The first part of this book freaked me out and got me invested, but the ending didnt satisfy me at all. If you want a different/modern fairy tale approach from serial killers to reality TV it is something worth checking out
